随着我国城镇园林绿化事业的迅速发展，人们对绿化的档次也在不断提高，在园林绿化布置上很讲究“色、香、位、形”的变化。“色”不仅是指绿色，而且要色彩的变化，以反映出不同季节苗木的叶色，充分体现自然美。“香”是指苗木的花香、叶香等。而“形”是指植物造景，通过修剪形成不同的形状，反映出立体美。只有绿化平面的、立体的、色彩方面的变化，才能体现园林绿化的高品位。目前彩叶苗木不仅用来点缀、配色，更多的被用来布置图案和色块，烘托园林气氛，可这样认为彩叶苗木是立体的“彩色地被”。加快彩叶苗木的种苗生产，尽快形成产业的关键问题是迅速扩大优质新品种彩叶苗木种群数量。在引进和培育适应黄河以南地区室外种植的彩叶苗木新品种的基础上，采用先进的扩繁技术，提供大量优质种苗，不仅能改变我省目前园林彩叶苗木品种陈旧、单一的现状，也使彩叶苗木品种迅速更新。同时针对当前的农业产业结构调整，不断的向苗木种植大户、种植专业户提供种苗，由农户生产商品苗，走公司加农户，合同农业的产业发展道路，不仅能迅速增加农民的收入，而且能满足绿化市场对彩叶苗木的需求，取得明显的经济效益和社会效益。
With the rapid development of Chinese town gardening, citizens’ requirement for
environment has ever incresed. The key to the gardening arrangement is the changes
in “color, fragrance, location, shape”. “Color” refers to not only green, but
also the changes in color, in another word, “natural beauty” or “different seasons,
different leaves, different colors”. “Fragrance” includes the flower fragrance,
leaf fragrance, etc. “Shape” means the three-dimensional beauty, which can be
performed by different cutting ways. Only the proper and coordinating changes
in plain, space and color can the taste of gardening be fully performed. Until
now, the color-leaf woods are not only used for ornament, but for forming patterns
and colorful blocks, which can set off the gardening atmosphere by contrast better.
It’s proper to call the color-leaf woods “colorful carpet”.The key to fastening
the production and industrialization of color-leaf woods is to enlarge the high-grade
varieties. Firstly, we must introduce and breed more new varieties which are adaptable
to the climate of South Yellow River regions. Secondly, we should adapt to the
more advanced breeding technology, then we will be able to provide more and better
seed plants, which will improve the present production situation of color-leaf
woods fundamently. Moreover, it will do great favour for the structural adjustment
of agriculture: the company provides seeds plants for the specialzed households,
then the latter carries out mass production, as a result, forming a new agricultural
production pattern- contract agricuture, which will not only increase the farmers’
